Recommendations The Certificate carries three categories of recommendations. These are Lower cost measures, Higher cost measures and Further measures. The first two give monetary savings which may cover the costs of implementation.
The recommendations shown in the report come from a standard set of energy efficiency improvement measures available to residential dwellings. They are selected for their relevance to the individual property although in some cases they may be removed from the recommendations if the Domestic Energy Assessor deems them unsuitable. An example of this may be where a recommendation to fit double glazing is removed because the assessor notes that the property is a listed building. Recommendations are not included if they do not provide the required increase in SAP (Standard Assessment Procedure) rating.
Lower cost measures These may often be looked upon as small upgrades to the property or DIY projects and are relatively inexpensive to do. For this reason, they may be the first measures undertaken. Generally, they are less than £500. Lower cost measures may include loft insulation, cavity fill, cylinder insulation, draught proofing (single glazed windows) and low energy lighting. Higher cost measures These are measures which normally cost more than £500 and so may be put off until requiring replacement. Typically some of the recommendations could be cylinder thermostat, heating controls or upgrade boiler. Further measures Whilst these are normally viewed as being uneconomic in terms of payback, they still provide a significant improvement in energy efficiency. These recommendations could include solar water heating, double glazing, secondary glazing, solid wall insulation, or photovoltaics.
